WENHAM MUSEUM EDUCATION INTERN – spring 2025
Wenham Museum in Wenham, MA is seeking an Education Intern to join its dynamic and energetic team. The Education Intern assists the museum’s Educator and with the development and implementation of programs for children, families, and adults.
Responsibilities:
Leading art/craft-based and storybook-based activities with children and families; teaching programs based in colonial history to an early education audience; and, coordinating and planning programs for children and adults. Assistance may also be required from time to time with historical research, exhibition installation, and collections care.
Qualifications:
We are seeking a candidate who has experience working with and/or teaching children, the ability to research and develop engaging and interactive activities based on local and national history, and is welcoming, reliable, and enjoys working with the public. Excellent written, interpersonal communication skills and the ability to represent the Wenham Museum in a professional manner are necessary. Ability to perform multiple tasks quickly and work independently, with moderate supervision. General computer skills with the web and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) are required.
Special Spring 2025 Projects in Museum Education
Title: Family Discovery Gallery Co-Curator Intern Hours/Length: 40 – 60 hours
The Family Discovery Gallery is a fully interactive play-based exhibit for children 18 months and up. The next exhibit will have a pre-historic dinosaur theme. The education intern project for this gallery will include co-planning larger installation elements and/or wall art to fit the theme. Planning can take place remotely over several weeks. The building and installation of custom components will occur over the course of 5 to 7 days in January / early February.
Potential Skills Needed:
- Carpentry (will have access to power tools at the museum)
- Painting (walls and or artwork on the walls)
- Prop fabrication (interactive play components)
The ideal intern candidate will be an independent, creative worker who has a passion for dinosaurs and who wants to help create a space where children’s imaginations can roar!
Title: Fabricator / Toymaker Intern Hours/Length: Flexible
The Wenham Museum has a field trip that teaches children about the roles of people at the museum. As part of this program, children practice being curators. Currently, the interactives for this field trip are two-dimensional cards, but the goal is to have some three-dimensional miniature artifacts that represent objects in the museum collection. The job of the intern would be to construct these miniature replicas. Construction may take place at the museum or offsite if the student has access to a 3D printer or other tools that would help in the construction of these miniatures.
Potential Skills Needed:
- Research (using the museum collection database to locate the actual objects)
- Photography (photographing the objects for reference)
- Miniature / Model building
The ideal intern candidate will be an independent, creative worker who has a passion for working in miniature and who potentially has access to tools or equipment that would aid in the crafting of miniatures.
Title: Costume Creator Intern Hours/Length: Flexible
The Wenham Museum offers a selection of colonial era field trip programs that include a costumed facilitator and dress-up clothing for children. The costumes currently in use could use a refresh. Some need to be remade and some mended. Work on these costumes may take place at the museum or offsite.
Potential Skills Needed:
- Pattern making (creating patterns from the existing costumes)
- Machine and hand sewing
The ideal intern candidate will be an independent worker with a passion for historical costuming / cosplay.
Title: Early Release After School Program Intern Hours/Length: 3.5 hours/week
The Hamilton-Wenham School District has an early release day every Wednesday. The Wenham Museum offers a drop-off program each week. Each week has a different theme (Lego Club, Board Game Club, Origami, Seasonal Crafts). Children enjoy the week’s activity and time in the museum galleries. An intern assisting with this program would arrive at the museum by 12:30pm on Wednesdays to prepare for the day, lead or monitor the activities, supervise children in the galleries, and interact with parents / guardians at drop-off or pick-up. The program runs until 4:00pm. Internship hours: 3.5 hours a week for as many weeks as the intern is available

The ideal candidate will enjoy spending time with elementary age children, actively participating in activities and encouraging children to take part.

WENHAM MUSEUM COLLECTIONS INTERN – No internships currently available in collections
We currently steward a diverse collection of approximately 45,000 artifacts that include textiles, household items, dolls, trains, toys, photographs and a large archive. We have pledged to adhere to best practices in ethics, collections management, education, exhibit design, financial stewardship, and strategic planning. Come join this dynamic group of staff and volunteers as you further your education with real world museum experience.
Collection Interns become an integral part of the Curatorial Team and will assist the Collections Manager in the ongoing inventory of the collections, research and cataloging, photography and rehousing of objects and to provide general administrative support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Using CatalogIt Museum Software to enter, maintain and enhance collections records
- Reconciling paper and digital records
- Learning and using proper handling techniques and supplies as we rehouse artifacts within the museum and to offsite storage facility
- Opportunity to collaborate with others on small congruent exhibits and educational programing either in-house or online.
Qualifications and Skills Sought:
- Junior/Senior or above in college program with focus in Museum Studies, History, Historic Preservation or related fields
- Computer efficiency with experience working with databases
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Accuracy, attention to detail and keen problem solving ability
- Self-motivation and ability to work well with others
- Ability to lift 40lb+ objects/climb ladders to reach top shelves of storage units
Time Commitment:
We ask interns to commit to 8-10 hours per week for 100 hours total.

WENHAM MUSEUM MARKETING INTERN – spring 2025
Wenham Museum in Wenham, MA is seeking a Marketing Intern to join its dynamic and energetic team. The Marketing Intern assists the Marketing Director and Executive Director with promotion of museum exhibitions, events and programs.
Responsibilities:
Writing press releases for newspapers, magazines and websites; designing promotional materials to promote upcoming museum events and exhibitions. Collaborate on print, social media and radio campaigns for upcoming exhibitions, programs and events. The Marketing Intern is also responsible for organizing digital assets and for maintaining records relating to departmental activities, files, and media.
Qualifications:
Excellent written, interpersonal communication skills and the ability to represent the Wenham Museum in a professional manner are necessary. Ability to perform multiple tasks quickly and work independently, with moderate supervision. Expertise in general computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), and Canva is required. Familiarity with website content management, WordPress, Constant Contact, and graphic design skills are a plus.
